The Burj Al Arab in Dubai is one of the grandest, most palatial & luxurious hotels in the world. It is an all-suite hotel designed on its own man-made island in the shape of a sail, a feat that was extremely difficult to achieve architecturally. The interiors have been decorated decadently with 24-carat gold leaf, the sheer opulence of this hotel is out of this world! It boasts of its own private beach, a helipad, an ultra-luxurious spa, 8 world class dining options and more! Unofficially many describe this hotel as a 7-star hotel! You just can't walk into this hotel, you need to have a prior reservation which is checked by security when your car enters. I had been watching videos and articles about this lavish hotel for years and it was my dream to visit the hotel. There were so many amazing dining options to choose from but we settled for one of the most iconic restaurants located with stunning sea and city views at the tip of this sail-shaped hotel - The Skyview Bar. So we arrived at the hotel in the evening and the first sight I was greeted with is a host of high-end cars parked at the entrance. When I looked up to see the awe-inspiring structure, it was beautifully lit up with multicolour lighting.
I entered the hotel through tall glass doors revealing the uber luxurious lobby. The lobby has a huge aquarium on both sides with exotic fish and a multi-layered fountain. Then I walked up a short escalator to reveal the second level of this lavish lobby and which was adorned with tall gold columns and arches and when I looked up I could see all the floors of the hotel tapering to the top.
The view was stunning to see a gradation of blue tapering upwards on each floor. This means they kept in mind how the floors would look from that vantage point! There was a second fountain there with fluttering water displays. The entire view was so mesmerizing I felt I was transported to a grand palace.
Then we walked further through a grand foyer with the most beautiful chandelier and waited for our lift.
The lift was made mostly out of glass and as the lift swiftly climbed to the 27th floor we felt like we were being levitated by a flying carpet as the city disappeared below us.
When the lift opened on the 27th floor, we were greeted by the hostess and she guided us to our seats. At the entrance, we walked through this tunnel designed like a circuit board with twinkling lights. It looked right out of a sci-fi movie! Upon exiting the tunnel the exquisite interiors of this lounge came into view. The ceiling had a beautiful design pattern with alternating colours of dark blue and turquoise. Lofty glass windows on all corners displayed some stunning city views.
As we had reserved much in advance we were seated at one of the window tables. From the pictures, you can see we were able to view some beautiful city nighttime views. Once the overwhelming feeling of these gorgeous surroundings mellowed a little, I concentrated on ordering some drinks and food. I had a fruity mocktail and we were served some assorted olives and salted pistachios to go with our drinks. The way that these olives and pistachios were served was pretty unique as they were served in custom designed 3 tiered silver sail-shaped stands with blue stained glass plates. Even our dishes came in the same type of stands. This was important as the tables were small, so these multi-layered stands helped as all the plates would not have fit on the table.
We had some falafel and a greek salad. The food tasted decent, there was no stand-out quality or wow moment with respect to the food, but it didn't matter as the view, the experience was just too mind blowing. The service was excellent as would be expected out of this world-class hotel, the ambience was fantastic and just the feeling of finally being at the place which I had dreamt about for years was just amazing.
On our way back down, I had a final look at all the splendid decor and opulence of this beautiful hotel. I left the hotel feeling satisfied, amazed, very happy and all in all, it was a truly memorable experience. You can also visit the Skyview Bar for afternoon tea experiences, at that time you can get a view of the sea as well as the city as its daytime.
Decadent Diaries Tip:
