This post is about my experience at the Swiss Business Class lounge at Zurich airport while traveling Mumbai - New York - Mumbai via Zurich. To read my experience about the flights click here.
SWISS BUSINESS CLASS LOUNGE
Zurich airport is very similar to the Swiss flight, in the sense that it has an industrial-complex feel and is very basic yet extremely clean. There were a handful of shops and limited eating options at the terminal of my connecting flight. However, as I had lounge access I straight headed to the lounge to rest.
The lounge had a sleek and clean design with a huge solid white showcase with various magazines and the red Swiss logo welcoming you.
Beyond that there were many seating areas, some with sofa-style seating and the ones close to the restaurant had tables and chairs. There was also a separate relaxation area with lounging chairs, a shower area, a work area for laptops etc.
They also had a terrace area from where you could on a clear day not only enjoy the fresh Switzerland air and view of the airport but also faintly see the Alps at a distance. I am obsessed with everything Swiss, be it Swiss cheese, Swiss butter, bread and of course Swiss chocolate. The chance to take a connecting flight through Zurich was more exciting as I was going to be able to eat these items at the airport. This stems from the happy memories of enjoying these Swiss treats as a kid when my dad used to take our family along on some of his business trips to Switzerland. It was one of our favorite countries to visit as a family.
Coming back to the lounge, there was a decent range of food items. We landed at around 10:15 a.m. and were welcomed by an appetizing breakfast spread. There was a separate area for fresh whole fruits, bar snacks and titbits and alcoholic drinks with respective glasses. This area also had one of my favorite jars filled with Ricola lozenges. These are some of my favorite throat soothers so I took a handful and stuffed it into my bag for my journey ahead. During mealtimes, this area also has a variety of desserts.
There was a separate area for tea and coffee with an extremely detailed coffee machine and a huge variety of tea.
Another counter had fresh yogurts, granola, cereals, cold cuts and cheeses. There was also this huge glass jar of Swiss chocolates to dig your hand into and grab as many as you like! On the other side of the counter were the non-alcoholic drinks and juices. It is sad though that they do not keep Rivella anymore as one of their options. Rivella is a fizzy drink unlike any other you will have, with a citrusy tang, a gingery base note and is not that sweet. It is made actually from milk whey! So I strongly suggest if you have the time, pop into one of the airport shops and try this amazing drink called Rivella.
Back to the lounge, there is a third counter which has few hot dishes freshly prepared and also some breads and soup. They are vegetarian friendly so you will usually find some options for vegetarians.
For breakfast, I had the bread with Swiss butter (so delicious), granola with yogurt and a glass of fresh orange juice. I came in at such a time that by 11 am the transition from breakfast to lunch had started so I was able to see the freshly made dishes being brought in for lunchtime. I tried some of the lunch dishes during my connecting journey back to Mumbai. The food was fantastic and fresh. Overall the Swiss lounge even though it was quite crowded, service was quite efficient and the variety of food offered was great.
