Top 5 Must Visit Places in Singapore - Top 5 Things to Do in Singapore

Singapore is one of my favourite cities in the world as it is full of malls and entertainment options, it is extremely safe as per my experience and the people are very nice (which is extremely important to me)

Here are the top 5 must-see places in Singapore.

Decadent Diaries Tips:

  1. Singapore MRT will help you get to any location you wish to visit fast, economically and efficiently. It is one of the best public transport systems in the world.

  2. There is a lot of exploring to do and a lot of malls to visit, please wear comfortable clothing (as per the hot and humid climate) and walking shoes! Carry a semi-empty backpack to carry your shopping if required instead of holding many bags in your hand. Sunscreen and an umbrella are a must.

  3. Singapore has an amazing GST Tax Refund policy for tourists. Please check for their updated rules and requirements on their official website.

  4. Google maps will help out so that you can be your own tour guide. Just mark the places on your map and have a data plan active on your phone so that you can explore and get directions through the map.

  5. My advice is to stay at a hotel located on Orchard Road, there is a lot to see and eat and experience over there and it's super convenient.

1.Marina Bay

Marina Bay is one of the most iconic spots in Singapore. It is a bay-side entertainment district having some of the main landmarks of Singapore. Here you can visit the iconic Merlion Statue, the futuristic arts venue Esplanade, the modern flower shaped ArtScience Museum, the Helix Bridge, the Singapore Flyer, the OCBC Skyway, the architectural marvel Marina Bay Sands hotel with the remarkable combined rooftop pool and more. Do not forget to visit the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, one of the most beautifully designed malls in Singapore. Some other main shopping malls in the area are the Marina Square Mall and the Suntec City mall. You can take a short 20-minute walk or an MRT ride to Bugis and visit the instagrammable street called Haji Lin.

2.Orchard Road

Orchard Road and Scotts Road are some of the most well-known and notable streets of Singapore. It is filled with the most popular malls, eateries and top hotels. The most popular malls there are Ion Orchard, Wisma Atria, Wheelock Place, Tang Plaza, Takashimaya, Ngee Ann City, Scotts Square and Shaw Centre. For budget shopping visit Far East Plaza and Lucky Plaza. Watch movies at Shaw theatres, enjoy a gelato at Gelatissimo below, I mean there is not enough praise I can give these beautiful streets. They are elegantly decorated during Christmas etc. and just taking a walk especially during the evening time with all the hustle and bustle and the bright lights and the scenic views of tall towers and glittery branded stores, it's just a great experience and must not be missed out. I advise staying at a hotel on Orchard Road as the convenience it offers not only in terms of MRT but just general access to restaurants, convenience stores and more is really a blessing.

3.Sentosa

Sentosa is a vibrant Island in Singapore with so much to do for every age group. There is the Resorts World Sentosa, a collection of 6 themed hotels and a casino. There is also the famous Universal Studios Theme Park located there. Visit the festive walk for luxury brand stores and restaurants. Do see the Sentosa Merlion. For the adventure junkies, there is the Mega Adventure Singapore, Skyline Luge, Skypack Sentosa, iFly Singapore, 4D Adventureland, Adventure Cove water park and more. Watch the Wings of Time nightly show with colourful lights, water fountains and 3D effects which can be enjoyed by the whole family. When you are in Sentosa, you can travel for free within the island from their available public transport, check their official website for the latest updates.

Having been to universal studios and resorts world, we chose to go towards the beachside and visit Tanjong Beach Club, we reached there by the complimentary beach shuttle on the island. There is so much to do over there that you can choose and select what you like as a family and spend an entire day there. A good mall to visit on your way back is the Vivo City mall.

How To Get There: Take the MRT to Harbourfront Station, and from there go to the Sentosa Express Station which is in Vivo City mall on Level 3.

4.Little India and Chinatown

I have mentioned both these places in one as both can be covered in a day's time. When you get out of the Chinatown MRT station, you are able to see these vibrant streets full of local shopping and eateries. Notable streets are Smith Street and Pagoda Street. See the beautiful Sri Mariamman Temple and the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. We visited the Tin Tin Shop on Pagoda St as we are huge fans. At Little India walk on Serangoon Road to see all the sights and sounds. Visit the Little India Arcade and the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple. Try some local food at both these places.

How To Get There: Take the MRT to Chinatown or Little India, the stations are named after the locations themselves.

5.Clarke Quay

The Riverside area of Clarke Quay along the majestic Singapore River is best to visit during the evening time. The entire place shines with colourful lights and the atmosphere is wonderful and dreamy. Walk around to find some amazing riverside restaurants, nightclubs, live performances and more. Take a Singapore River Cruise if you like. The entire ambience of this place is so breathtaking, that it really must not be missed out.

Bonus Place: Jewel (Opposite Changi Airport)

On the day that you are to leave Singapore, head to Changi Early to visit the Jewel Mall. Pls be notified Changi Airport and Jewel Changi are different, so do not go through the security check by mistake at Changi Airport or you won't be able to access Jewel. You need to head to Jewel first and use their baggage storage facility to safely store your baggage while exploring this magnificent mall. If you are travelling by Singapore Airlines, then they have early check-in services as well at Jewel on level 1. You can also claim your GST refunds at L1 in Jewel. Jewel is a new addition in Singapore which has some awesome stores and stunning architecture like the Rain Vortex and the Canopy Park. There is a Starbucks Reserve one can visit, one can enjoy the hedge maize, one can have a look at the amazing Pokemon store, there is so much to do. The mall in itself has infinite shopping and eating options as well for some last-minute shopping if you have missed out on something.

How To Get There: This mall is next to Changi Airport
